Annual Review 2023

As is now (sort of) traditional, it’s the end of the year so time for a pictorial review of some of the things I’ve done in the last 12 months.

My planned walk in January was cancelled due to flooding so I headed down to South coast for some exploring there instead
In April, I finally finished walking the Capital Ring which I had started in October 2020 (Obviously not walking for that whole time!)
In May, I completed the LDWA 100 mile walk. This photo was the welcome sight of the sun coming up at the start of the second day (having walked through the night and the whole day before)
In June, I went to an aquarium with some friends (I just love this action shot of the fish posing)
Later in June, I attended the Donauinselfest (Danube Island Festival) in Vienna (the second day wasn’t as wet as the first evening and was much busier)
In July, I completed the Nijmegen 4-day walk. Against what everyone says, the Netherlands isn’t all flat, although the hill in this photo is actually in Germany (in fact, the field at the front is too – the road marks the border!)
In August, my younger brother and I walked the West Highland Way. It rained a lot, but the scenery was spectacular (I should do a full write-up of this sometime…)
A visit to Melk, Austria in early October followed by a boat trip along the Danube which I’m pretty sure gave me food poisoning…
In late October I visited the USA. I took a load of photos (which should probably also end up as a blog post of its own in the future), but this is one of my favourites for showing the Autumn Fall colours
And finishing off the review with another visit down to the South coast

Annual review 2021

It’s the last blog post of 2021 so time to pictorially review some of the things I’ve done this year.

Not the first walk of the year, but my first walk in sunny weather was along the Thames in early April. I did a very similar route a couple of weeks later.
In May I walked the North Downs Way.
Later in May I made it out of London again for a 26 mile walk in the Chilterns.
And at the end of May I walked 75 miles in about 36 hours. The ice-cream each time I passed the lake was one of the highlights.
In July I passed through Leicestershire on the way to see friends so stopped at the site of the Battle of Bosworth.
A trip to Northumberland in July.
My now annual walk with my brother. This time, the Yorkshire Wolds Way.
In September I made my first trip abroad in almost two years with a visit to Vienna.
And then back again to Vienna in November.

And finally, an overseas trip that didn’t happen this year. I had planned to be in the USA this week until recent events happened. Anyway, here’s a photo from the last time I went in July 2018. Hopefully I can make it there in 2022!

Annual Review 2020

In what will now become a blog tradition (assuming I’m still blogging this time next year), I’m going to share some of the places I’ve been this year in pictorial format…

A wet walk across Salisbury in January (also the last photo before my phone died).
In March, I finished walking the 150 mile (242km) London Loop. It’s not the most exciting part of London, but it’s another walk finished.
A May bank holiday weekend out in Sussex (when the weather was nice and the lockdown restrictions had lifted sufficiently).
In July I walked the 66 mile (107 km) Vanguard Way, meeting the coast at the Seven Sisters where the weather was perfect.
In August I walked the 109 mile (175 km) Cleveland Way with my brother.
